Sports Physiotherapy

Our Orthopedic Sports Physiotherapists have post-graduate training and experience in sports rehabilitation. The rehabilitation principles applied with the athlete carry over to any person who has had a musculoskeletal injury. Taping or bracing options are similar whether it be a hockey player with a sprained knee or someone who twisted their knee while putting out the garbage. Our Sport Physiotherapists will design a “return to sport” or “return to life/work” rehabilitation/exercise program to ensure success and avoid re-injury.

A thorough understanding of the symptoms of concussion and its current treatment protocols allows the Sport Physiotherapist to provide proper guidance to not only the athlete that has sustained a concussion in sport but also any person who may have suffered a head injury at work, in a motor vehicle accident or from a fall.

Types of Sports Injuries

Benefits of Sports Physiotherapy

No matter the type of injury, the goal of sports physiotherapy is to reduce pain and swelling, support proper healing, maintain fitness while injured, re-gain strength and range of motion and correct maladaptive movement patterns in the body that may have occurred. With an active, movement and exercise based approach, the athlete re-gains confidence and experiences a reduction in the anxiety that can sometimes occur while returning to sport. A customized rehabilitation plan works to ensure success in safely returning to sport while avoiding re-injury.
