Corona Virus – What are we doing?

OUR BUSINESS REMAINS OPEN AND WE ARE HERE TO HELP

AS OF MAY 4th, WE ARE ABLE TO SEE A LIMITED NUMBER OF PATIENTS IN-CLINIC FOR PHYSIOTHERAPY. IN ADDITION, PHYSIOTHERAPY REMAINS OPEN FOR VIRTUAL CARE. WE HAVE TELEHEALTH APPOINTMENTS AVAILABLE FOR THOSE WHO WISH TO REMAIN AT HOME BUT STILL ACCESS PHYSIOTHERAPY.

Over the past 6 weeks, we have completed over 800 virtual care sessions.
Many patients have completed their whole course of care through to resolution (assessment, treatment, discharge) through video consultation. Not many therapists can “fix” a patient without ever touching them. This is a very specialized skill that MDT clinicians share. All of our therapists have had extensive training in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (MDT) and as a result, we are able to VERY EFFECTIVELY assess and treat via telehealth. We believe in patient education and empowerment and we have loved seeing our clients in right in their homes. Patients really appreciate the convenience, effectiveness and safety of receiving physiotherapy care in this way. Extended health benefit plans are now paying for virtual physiotherapy.

Through our continued vigilance we endeavor to keep our patients and staff safe.  To that end, we wanted to make sure that you are aware of additional steps that we are taking. It is important that you feel confident and comfortable attending your visit with us.

OUR ROLE

  • Following the guidance of Physiotherapy Alberta College and Association, the Chief Medical Officer and the Government of Alberta we are pre-screening all patients and staff prior to attending the clinic.
  • The guidelines recommend in-clinic visits be reserved for those who can not be treated via video consultation and where the benefit outweighs the risk to both the patient and the therapist.
  • From the beginning of this outbreak, we have doubled our efforts in regards to our already rigorous infection control policy.  In addition, we are requiring all staff and patients to wear masks when in the clinic and thoroughly sanitize hands on entering and exiting.
  • All payments and paperwork will be done electronically where possible to limit touch points.
  • We are ensuring at least 2 meters social distancing between people at the clinic by limiting the number allowed in at any one time.

YOUR ROLE

  • Consider making your first appointment via video conferencing. A large portion of your assessment happens through talking. We need to ask you a lot of questions in order to understand your injury and your overall health. This can very effectively be done remotely. Following the first portion of your assessment, you and the therapist can better determine what the best plan of action is.
  • Stay calm and positive, stress and anxiety have very negative effects on health and make pain worse. Be healthy and take care of yourself.
  • Eat well, sleep well, try and get outside for some fresh air.  Please wash hands OFTEN, avoid touching your face, maintain social distance, disinfect high touch areas around your home and car.
  • Support your local small businesses and their staff but maintain a safe social distance.  Hopefully, together we can weather this storm.

STILL HAVE QUESTIONS?

You can take the TAKE THE ONLINE SELF ASSESSMENT prior to attending or canceling an appointment.
