Motor Vehicle Accident?

Slippery roads this time of year unfortunately result in car accidents. Often times, people think they are not injured but within a few days start noticing some stiffness or pain in the neck or back. This is a minor form of whiplash and should be assessed and treated. The Alberta Government introduced the minor injury protocols for MVA’s (Motor Vehicle Accidents) in 2004. This legislation allows you to access a physiotherapist directly after an accident without a physician’s referral in order to get your injury claim started. If assessed by a primary health care practitioner (eg physiotherapist) within 10 days of your accident, we are able to direct bill your insurance for your treatments with no out of pocket expenses to you. Getting started early before your symptoms become chronic is the best way to make sure you completely recover from your injury. For more information, see the MVA section of our website.

Audrey Long, physical therapist at Bonavista Physical Therapy has just been officially recognized by the Canadian Physiotherapy Association as a Clinicial Specialist in MSK (Musculoskeletal). She is among the first group in Canada to receive this designation. Audrey is also qualified to order X-Ray, MRI and Ultrasound studies for her clients if indicated. Combined with her expertise as an instructor in the McKenzie Method (MDT), Audrey is an invaluable member of our team.
